In the countdown to the start of the 2025 FIM Superbike World Championship, BMW Motorrad Motorsport has completed an intensive double-pack of tests. Reiterberger tested with the WorldSBK Test Team in Spain and Portugal.
In addition to poor weather conditions, changed regulations made the development process more difficult: Due to the FIM rule change in force since 23rd January 2025, the Super Concession frame used last year may no longer be used. In addition, the fuel flow limit of 47 kg/h forces all teams to adopt more efficient strategies. Despite all these hurdles, BMW has created a strong basis with the new M 1000 RR - the season can come!
In addition to the regular riders, reigning world champion Toprak Razgatlioglu and Michael van der Mark, the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Test Team with Markus Reiterberger (GER) and Sylvain Guintoli (FRA) in the saddle of the new BMW M 1000 RR were also involved in the two tests. The test days were used for intensive set-up work with the new World Superbike in preparation for the title defence mission, in close cooperation between the deployment and test teams. The 2025 WorldSBK season starts from 21 to 23 February in Phillip Island (AUS).
Markus Reiterberger (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Test Team): ‘Unfortunately, the weather wasn't quite so good during the pre-season tests. But that's how it was for all the teams and riders. The weather at both tests was unfortunately very mixed, and it was also relatively cool. Nevertheless, we tried to complete our test programme as best we could and completed a lot of laps. And we tried out all the different things, which the engineers were very happy with. That's also important for me as a test rider: that I can contribute findings that the engineers and the team can then work with properly and that it also benefits the project. That's why my goal is not necessarily to ride a fast lap. All in all, it was a cool test, we spent a lot of time together and collected a lot of data. I think we have done some good groundwork so that the works team now has a good basis for Phillip Island. I am very happy and grateful to be part of it.’
